Hong Kong, here i come. On Sat morning, i was up (only slept for 2 hours again) as i get panic attacks half way and being on a comfy bed in a 4 star hotel, reminds me again as how miserable WO WO must be feeling to be sleeping on concrete floor, with no mattress not blanket.
I started browsing online for air flights and hotels booking for Hong Kong. Since even if i were to return to KL that day, i couldn't go & visit WO WO. So, i decided to head over to HK and locate the officer in charge of the case. I found the online booking for JetStar, easy to navigate, make online booking & just pay via ct card.
By 12pm, i rushed out to the ATM machine, to withdraw some Singapore currency. Thank god, i had a local Singapore account and took out all the money from the account. Went to the money exchange and guess what, all HK dollars were out of stock. I went to a second money exchange store and managed to get some money.
Then, rushed to the airport and just in time to check in. You are required to be checked in at least 1 hour prior to departure. The flight was 3.45, and i was at the airport at 2.35. After going through immigration, i headed towards the departure gate. And stopped by Giordano to get some clothes, and managed to get myself a new pair of trousers & shirt.
All i had in my suitcase (i was only supposed to be in Singapore for only 1 night so i only had my clothes & 1 pair of working clothes). The flight was also delayed in taking off, by about 15 minutes. I choose a window seat, and Jet Star Asia had 2 columns of 3 seats each per row. Beside me, were 2 Singaporean men in their late 40s and 50s. Throughout the first 15 minutes of the flight, they kept on talking and talking and talking non-stop.
I stood up and looked around. Found some vacant seats which would be quiet, so i moved out and sat at an aisle seat next to a young lady. She was reading a Russian book, but since she had Asian features, i guessed she was from Mongolia. This budget airline flight difference is that you just have to pay if you want to have food, plus they can even rent you a movie dvd player machine for S$12.
I just browsed through the magazines, and ate a Subway sandwich i had bought at the airport, with Snapple juice. Then, i tried to take a nap, but my heart was just so worried, so i decided to just take out my laptop & concentrate on work. The lights in the cabin were very dim, but if i was not working, i knew that i'll be crying.
For about 2 straight hours, i was typing away and preparing emails, and going through some plans. Then we arrive in HK at about 7.50pm. During landing, the young lady introduced herself and yes, she really was from Mongolia and it was her first time to HK. For this plane, you need to be driven to the main airport terminal via a shuttle bus for about 5 minutes away. But once we were out of the bus, the Hong Kong immigration counters were just above.
Quickly lined up and it's the first time i've seen such a short queue in HK airport. I've been in HK about 3 times in 2004 itself so i was pretty familiar. The entire process was swift and i headed for the airport rail service direct to Kowloon. The train was fast and cheaper compared to taxis so in about 24 minutes i was already in city centre, Kowlooon. Got on a cab and showed him my hotel along Nathan Road.
I could speak fluent Cantonese, but was unable to read the characters so even for cab drivers, it's best to give them the Chinese name. The trip was short, just about 15 minutes and it costs me HK$20.
Checked into my room at 8.45, and yes, had to pay for the wireless internet. Headed downstairs to the main streets at Jordan Street & Nathan Road. There were people all around, in latest fashion accessories, and lots of choices for food & shopping. I decided to just go out without my handbag, so i carried HK$120 and my credit card. First shop i went into was a clothing store. Bought 3 pieces of tops for about HK$280 and was able to put this to my credit card.
Then moved on to Jordan Street, and had a bowl of steamed milk with egg dessert. This was my favourite dessert and only in China & HK that you can get really good ones. It cost me HK$16. Then i bought some underwear and walk past a shop selling chicken rice. HK chicken rice was also my favourite, especially it's ginger condiment so i packed it "to go"/ take away for HK$20. Walk past 7-11 and stocked up on drinks.
I was back to my hotel by 10.30 and unpacked. When both Wo Wo and me travel together (we travel together locally & overseas at least 3 times per month), he would be working intensely on his laptop while i'll be shopping & watching tv.... but now everything changed. I no longer have the heart to watch movies. I called up his mother in HK to confirm my hotel name, room, and made appointment with her to go & locate the police station on Sunday morning.
Saturday night at about 11, i decided to eat the chicken rice, but it tasted bad... or should i say, i barely could chew. Maybe i was just too tired, so i only ate 2 spoonfuls and threw the whole pack into the garbage bin in the washroom.
HK has always been one of my favourite shopping areas, and dining locations, but for now, i feel guilty even just having any good feelings.
